A new semester is almost upon me, and I want to get my crafting stuff in order so that I can use the activity of making as a way to unwind from academics. An inventory of supplies is in order, but for the moment I thought I’d list all the stuff I’ve started or thought about starting.
Started:
- Quilt!
- Indelible studios embroidered blog header
- barrettes with yo-yos
- gray knitted scarf with black details
- cotton washcloths
- coffee sweaters
Want to start:
- another gray/brown knitted scarf or shrug?
- cross-stitch sampler
- embroidery for friends
- sewn pencil cases
- refashioned shirt projects
Need to get additional supplies for:
- More vintage button barrettes
- Vintage button brooches
- baby blanket for H’s baby – knit? crochet?
Today I went to a fabric sale; the morning started out with really disappointing junky garage sales but ended up great. At this particular sale, I could have spent four times what I did spend, and got great deals. I got a whole bunch of fabrics, mostly neutrals and solids, but a couple of cute prints. There was a whole pile of vintage fabrics and a bunch of upholstery fabrics, some old papers, yarns, tons of old magazines, buttons, and notions. I only bought one 2/3 yard of vintage fabric, for a tote bag. I also bought a Weave-It loom, some pretty variegated pearle cotton, thread, red and pink vintage buttons, and a small bag of lace and trim. Pictures to come!
So I thought I’d make some notes on what I’ve got in progress and what I plan to make next since now I have a billion pieces of fabric to figure out how to use (I’ve got the stuff from this sale, stuff from my mom’s basement, and stuff from ladies on freecycle).
In progress:
- B’s yellow and brown woven tote
- Embroidering my daughter’s drawing, and then figuring out whether to make a wall hanging or a pillow?
- My chevron cross-stitch
Coming up:
- a tote bag out of the vintage fabric I bought today
- woven pouches for my ipod & other things
- woven cuff bracelets

- first cross-stitch chart and the sample for it
- skirt out of the blue fabric I bought today
- skirt out of the tweedy fabric I bought today
- skirt for my daughter out of my old red and white striped shirt
- dress for my daughter out of an old embroidered blue dress of mine
- dress for my daughter out of my old chambray shirt with a tear
- BTRS artsy clutch out of linen and bright fabrics, maybe with embroidery
- woven black and gray squares for a blanket
